Volkswagen Bratislava, s. r. o. was founded in 1991. The production of the Volkswagen Passat Variant directly started in 1992. In January 1999 the company changed its legal form to Volkswagen Slovakia. Cars, gearboxes and components are made in the plants in Bratislava and Martin. With 8400 employees, Volkswagen Slovakia is one of the biggest employers in Slovakia as well as one of the biggest exporters.
The Bratislava plant is currently used for the production of the Volkswagen Touareg, Audi Q7, Volkswagen up!, Škoda Citigo, SEAT Mii as well as for the body of the Porsche Cayenne. These automobiles are exported mainly into European countries as well as into China, which is therefore increasingly becoming a key market for the products of Volkswagen Slovakia. The total investments for this project amount to € 308 million taking the total production capacity to 400,000 vehicles a year and increasing the number of employees by 1,500.
The Board of Volkswagen Slovakia consists of three members, each being responsible
for a particular part of the company. The chairman of the Board is currently Albrecht Reimold.
